No posts received thumbs up, next time you see a good one, give some respect and thumb it up.
these are cad designs abd rendering for past a potential customer projects.
the attached photos are of some lay ups over the years. a variety of wood and a variety of differt styles . from 12 to 32 piece matches. the term "starburst" and radial match are completely different . the template for a starburst is not pie shaped.

These are type samples of work probably done in the early 1800's.
I bought this flitch oddly enough from a chinese supplier. I started to market it long before it arrived. 90% was sold before it ever hit USA soil.
The design criteria has changed with not only my residential customers but with the architectural industry as well.
Hi Tex,
good question!
my favorites
macassar ebony
crotch mahogany
lacewood
pommele sapele
makore
wenge
least favorite
maple
oak
bamboo
these un favorite veneers have more to do with design rather than workability.bamboo is like working with a porcupine.
favorites like mac ebony have to do with design and finish they produce. crotch mahogany is hard to prep but is still the king of the woods. the combo of crotch and satinwood is a classic look.
if prefer the off beat as opposed to the mundane . 25 years ago i couldn't give mac ebony away, now ... i cant keep it around. most flitches are gone before it's delivered.

HI LEE,
I used to used conversion varnish but switched to Polane. its a sherwinn williams finish. twice as expensive but the durability justifies the cost. Two part mix like conversion varnish, but the solid content is 5 times higher.
the bar photos , i used a PPG auto clear coat. Full fill finish.
i was doing a panel job for anheser bush, curly anigre, and i forgot to remove the blue tape i used for a fast repair, put the panel in the hot press and started to sand the panels, you can imagine what happened. the panels were center matched for a conference room too so there was no starting over.
well .... it was one of my better bull stories but it worked. dodged a bullet.
table looks like ribbon striped sapele and birdseye maple . would that be correct?
